As a volunteer and board member with the Lake Union Civic Orchestra Kate established the organization’s first grant calendar. Successful proposals she submitted included a $10,000 grant from 4Culture's Cultural Facilities fund to purchase percussion instruments for the orchestra.
At Seattle Rep Kate was responsible for raising more than $500,000 each year from foundations and government agencies. For example, her successful proposal to the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Neighborhood Matching Fund raised $25,000 towards the theater’s Public Works Program.
Grantwriting was just one of Kate's responsibilities during her four-year tenure as Development Director at Washington Trails Association. Successful applications she submitted included $25,000 sponsorship requests to REI and Boeing to support WTA’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
At Woodland Park Zoo Kate raised $1 – 2 million each year for eight years through proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. As part of the zoo’s More Wonder, More Wild campaign she wrote successful proposals to the Gates Foundation, the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, the Norcliffe Foundation, and many others.
